Jewelry cleaner is tested on animals

Yes, you read that correctly. Jewelry cleaner, tested on animals. Isn't that awful?

I try to learn about the origins of every single product I buy and use, and looking into different brands of silver and gold jewelry cleaner really opened my eyes. It turns out this is a much bigger problem across the jewelry and metalworking world than most people realize. It is not just cleaner either. Plenty of the everyday tools sitting on a jeweler's bench, saw blade lubricant included, can contain animal byproducts or come from companies that test on animals, and most of that information is never printed anywhere on the label.

I have been living a vegan lifestyle for about 20 years now, and when I started my business those values naturally spilled into every decision I made for it too, right down to reading the ingredients and sourcing of everything that touches my workbench. Thankfully, there are cruelty free, vegan, non toxic, all natural alternatives out there for nearly everything a jeweler needs, you just sometimes have to dig a little to find them.

There is a helpful website that I often reference called Leaping Bunny. They have certified cruelty free companies listed for just about any product you might look for! Not all of their suggestions are vegan, but they were not tested on animals. So, you do have to do a little more research if using animal free products is as important to you as it is to me.

This is just one more small way I try to make sure that the love for animals woven into every piece I make starts long before the silver ever reaches my hands.

Using it is simple. Take a clean soft cloth, dab a little on, and swirl it around your jewelry. Wipe it off with a clean cloth, rinse well, and make sure it is completely dry before you wear it again. They also make a liquid version I have been meaning to try, since dunking and being done would save a step or two, but the little extra effort with the cloth is always worth it to me knowing it never harmed an animal to make.
