Vernal Pool Necklace - Bird Collection

A peek through a window of all that grows in the springtime in a vernal pool! So many ferns frame the trillium flowers popping from the wet earth below. There are tiny violet flowers and heart shaped leaves growing under the skunk cabbage. Some of the first flowers in the Northeast to welcome spring. Often times, those skunk cabbage flowers are able to push themselves up through the snow and ice because they create heat as they grow. A very unique feature of this water loving plant. It is the iconic, low growing, oddly shaped flowers of the plant that we recognize as flowering before the leaves emerge. tucked behind the flowers are the tall proud leaves. 

A tiny chickadee sits atop a fern singing and looking for his mate. At the top of this window into a spring vernal pool is a flashy opal that shows off colors in every direction. The hand pieced necklace was made to be 17.5 inches long and ends in a large S clasp and it holds onto a heart on the other end of the necklace. The mushroom and fern links made within the necklace chain have designs on both sides so they are beautiful no matter the direction they sit while you wear this necklace. My Maker's Mark is on the back of this necklace and features my striped cat, Maximillian.
