Triple Goddess Moon Necklace

1 in stock

There is a reason humans have been looking up at the moon for as long as there have been humans. It is the only object in the sky that visibly changes, that grows and diminishes in a rhythm so reliable you could set a calendar by it, because for most of human history people did. It pulls the tides. It lights the dark. It disappears completely and then, without fail, comes back. If you were going to choose any object in the natural world to represent the great cycle of beginnings and endings and everything in between, you would choose the moon. Every culture that has ever existed essentially did.

The Triple Moon

The lunar cycle takes approximately 29.5 days to complete, moving from new moon through waxing crescent to full moon and back again through waning crescent to darkness. The human menstrual cycle averages 28 days. This correspondence was noticed a very long time ago, and the moon has been understood as carrying feminine energy across cultures and centuries in ways that predate written history.

The triple moon symbol represents three phases of that cycle and three phases of a woman's life. The waxing crescent on the left is the Maiden, beginnings and possibility and the world opening outward. The full moon at the center is the Mother, fullness and power and everything in bloom. The waning crescent on the right is the Crone, wisdom and depth and the knowledge that comes only from having lived long enough to see the whole pattern. Together they are the Triple Goddess, a symbol found across ancient Greek, Celtic, and Norse traditions under different names and in different forms, but always representing the same understanding that a life moves in cycles the way the moon moves in cycles, and that every phase of it carries its own particular kind of power.

The moon itself is extraordinary by any measure. It is the fifth largest natural satellite in the solar system, large enough that its gravitational pull moves entire oceans, old enough that its cratered surface records four billion years of history. Its light is borrowed entirely from the sun and yet it has been navigated by, planted by, celebrated by, and mourned by every human civilization that has ever existed. There is not a culture on Earth that looked up and felt nothing.

The Piece

Three moons hang together across your chest, their surfaces given the cratered, pocked texture of the real lunar surface, each crater and bump catching the light differently as you move so the whole piece shifts the way the moon itself seems to shift depending on the angle of the light and the darkness around it. The full moon at the center is the largest, flanked by the two crescents curving inward toward it on either side, the whole composition wide and horizontal and quietly dramatic.

Every element was made from scratch from recycled sterling silver and deeply oxidized so the texture reads in rich relief, light catching the raised points and shadow pooling in the craters. The three pieces hang from a sterling silver loop chain 17 inches long, closing with a lobster clasp that grasps a small heart at the other end.

The Craftsmanship

  • Pendant: three moons, approximately 1.75 inches wide across the full composition
  • Material: recycled sterling silver throughout, oxidized
  • Chain: 17 inch sterling silver loop chain
  • Clasp: lobster clasp with heart detail
  • Edition: one of a kind

One of a Kind

There is only one of this necklace. These three moons, this texture, this particular rendering of a symbol that has meant something to people for longer than anyone can measure: they exist once. When this piece finds its person it will never be made again exactly like this.

A Note from Tamara

This piece sits a little outside my usual world of native plants and pollinators and I have always loved it for that reason. The moon is nature too, after all. It is the original timekeeper, the thing that taught us that everything moves in cycles, that darkness is not the end of the story but simply one part of it. I made this from recycled silver because it felt right to make something about cycles from material that has already lived one life and is beginning another. I hope it finds the person who has been looking for it. I think she knows who she is.
