Trillium Garnet Dangle Earrings
Trillium grandiflorum are one of the very few plants that propagate in a way called myrmecochory. Myrmecochory is a mutualistic relationship between ants and plants. The seeds of many trillium have a fatty appendage, called elaiosome, on each seed that ants are attracted to as food. So, they take the seeds back to their nest to eat the elaiosome from it and then discard the majority of the seed elsewhere to grow. The seeds and the ants benefit from each other without harm to either.
These one of a kind sterling silver earrings were made from scratch with hand set genuine garnet gemstones in the center of each trillium flower. You can wear these earrings in one of two ways. The flowers themselves can be worn as a simple stud, or you can add the leaf stem onto the stud earring post and they will dangle around giving movement to your botanical gems. These earrings are about 2 inches long with the leaf stems.
