Tiny Mushroom Jewelry Set

You find them the same way every time. Not when you are looking, but when you are not. You are walking and thinking about something else entirely and then there they are, two or three of them pushed up through the moss overnight, speckled caps catching the morning light, completely unbothered by the fact that they appeared from nothing while you were asleep. You stop every time. You always will.

The Mushroom

Mushrooms are not plants. They are the fruiting bodies of fungi, the visible portion of an underground network that can extend for acres in every direction, threading through the soil and connecting trees and exchanging nutrients in a system of communication and cooperation that scientists are still mapping in full. What you see above ground is only ever the smallest part of what is happening below it.

Fungi do not photosynthesize. They break down organic matter and return nutrients to the soil, quietly disassembling every fallen leaf and every dead tree and cycling the forest's resources back into the ground where they are needed. Without them the forest would eventually bury itself in its own debris. Fungi have been doing this work for roughly 900 million years, which makes them one of the oldest forms of life on Earth, and the small speckled mushroom that appears overnight in the moss is the visible tip of something vast and ancient and almost entirely invisible.

They appear when conditions are exactly right and not a moment before. They do not ask permission. They are very good at what they do.

The Piece

Three mushrooms, each one carved from scratch in solid sterling silver, each one its own slightly unique version of the same essential thing. The speckled caps are textured in careful detail, the stalks tapering down to bases still rough with the suggestion of soil and mycelium, the whole thing about three quarters of an inch tall and filled with more personality than something that size has any right to contain.

The pendant hangs on an 18 inch sterling silver rope chain, ready to wear the moment it arrives. The earrings are studs with sterling silver posts and backs, small enough to wear every single day and detailed enough to make someone lean in for a closer look.

This set is made to order just for you. You can order the complete set of necklace and earrings together, or just the necklace, or just the earrings. There is also a matching ring available in this style if you would like to bring the whole forest floor along with you. Each piece will be made fresh by hand and will be its own slightly unique mushroom, because no two ever come out exactly the same.

A Note from Tamara

I made this set for the person who finds mushrooms every time they go for a walk and cannot stop themselves from stopping to look. There is something about them that insists on being noticed, that small perfect thing appearing overnight from nothing, going about its ancient and essential work completely indifferent to whether anyone is paying attention. I hope whoever wears these feels a little of that same quiet confidence. You do not need to be large to be extraordinary. The mushroom has always known this.

Shipping

Your mushrooms will be made to order just for you in my little studio in the New Hampshire woods. Please allow one to two weeks for them to be created. You will receive a tracking number by email so you can follow them on their journey to their new home.
