Long Stem Daffodil Earrings or Set
You do not need to check the calendar. The daffodils will tell you. One morning you look out the window and there they are, those trumpet faces turned toward whatever light there is, cheerful and completely unbothered by the fact that it is still technically winter. They have been doing this for thousands of years and they are extremely good at it. Now you can wear one in your ear and let it do the same thing for everyone who sees you.
The Daffodil
The old English name for the daffodil was affodyle, meaning that which comes early, which is perhaps the most accurate name any flower has ever been given. Daffodils are among the very first flowers to bloom after winter, pushing up through cold soil while most of the garden is still dormant, announcing spring with a confidence that the weather has not yet earned.
Their botanical name is Narcissus, after the young man in Greek mythology who fell so completely in love with his own reflection that he leaned too close to the water and drowned, and where he fell a flower bloomed. It is a darker origin story than the flower deserves, but the daffodil itself seems entirely unbothered by its mythological backstory. It keeps coming back every March, faithful and bright, completely unconcerned with what anyone thinks. There are over thirteen thousand registered cultivars and they are still, unmistakably, always just a daffodil.
Daffodil is the birth flower of March. If you know a March baby you know someone who has been told their whole life that spring begins with them. This is correct.
The Piece
Each earring is a single daffodil on a long stem, the flower hand carved in sterling silver with layered petals etched with fine lines and that distinctive trumpet corona rising from the center, slightly ruffled at the edge the way a real daffodil trumpet always is. The stem is the ear wire, two inches of smooth sterling silver that threads through your ear and sits behind the lobe while the daffodil face sits happily in front. From the front you see the flower. From behind, a slender stem peeks out like a daffodil growing straight from your ear, which is the kind of detail that makes someone stop and look twice and then immediately ask where you got them.
If you would also like a matching necklace, each daffodil pendant is made the same way, entirely by hand with every petal cut individually with a jeweler's saw and the corona shaped with a tiny hammer and vise. The pendant is approximately 1.5 inches tall and comes on an 18 inch sterling silver chain ready to wear. A matching ring is also available in your size, just send a message with your ring size when you order.
Each pair is made to order just for you from sterling silver throughout, and each one will be its own slightly unique daffodil because that is how handmade things work and daffodils in particular have always done things their own way.

A Note from Tamara
I made these because daffodils are one of those flowers that make people feel something specific and personal, a grandmother's garden, a roadside bank that blooms every April, the first sign that a hard winter is finally giving way. The long stem style felt exactly right for a daffodil because they have always been flowers on stems, nodding slightly in the cold spring air, doing exactly what they came to do. These are available for a limited time as a celebration of spring. If pansies are more your flower I also make long stem pansy earrings in this same style.
