Great Black Wasp on Mountain Mint Necklace

Not only are great black wasps native pollinators, but they really help with the insect pests that eat our garden plants! These huge dark black wasps (who named these?? How boring is that guy?) have the prettiest iridescent blue wings you have ever seen! They float from flower to flower drinking nectar. These wasps are not a threat to humans and very peaceful garden friends. The females will also be hunting for insects while drinking nectar, like grasshoppers, katydids, and other garden eating creatures to bring back to her nest to feed her young. So, they are helpful in other ways as well! 

This great black wasp was hand carved from sterling silver. Her thin waist, large wings, and huge beautiful eyes mimic the real insects. She is drinking nectar from a mountain mint flower. The hand pieced sterling necklace chain measures about 19 inches long but can be worn at shorter lengths because of the hook clasp that was created for it.
