White Clover and the Lucky Leaf

White clover is one of the most generous plants in any lawn or meadow. Its flowers feed bumblebees, honeybees, and dozens of native bee species from spring through fall. The four leaf variation is not a different plant at all. It is the same humble white clover, carrying a quiet genetic surprise. Scientists estimate roughly one in five thousand clover plants produces a four leaflet leaf, which means finding one has always required an unusual combination of patience, luck, and paying close attention to the ground beneath your feet. The folklore around them stretches across many cultures and centuries. Perhaps because finding one really does feel like the world offering you something small and unexpected.

The Necklace

The clover was formed entirely by hand in sterling silver, its four rounded leaflets shaped and textured individually before being joined at the center. Each leaflet has a slightly different character, just like a real clover found in the grass. The oxidized finish deepens the texture and gives the silver the look of something that has been growing quietly in a shaded meadow. From the base of the clover a long graceful stem curves gently downward, ending in a bezel set teardrop of Sonoran Gold turquoise. The stone is a vivid spring green with the kind of depth that catches the light differently depending on how you move. The whole pendant hangs from a sterling silver rope chain.

I made this one in late winter, thinking about spring coming back. There is something about a four leaf clover that feels like the right thing to be wearing when the world starts turning green again. I bring these back every year around the time the clover is just beginning to grow. This particular one has been waiting for exactly the right person.
