Dainty Full Moon Necklace
It has been pulling tides and lighting dark fields and making people stop and look up for four and a half billion years. You can wear a little of that around your neck for considerably less time and effort.
The Moon
The lunar surface is one of the most geologically preserved records in our solar system. Unlike Earth, which has weather and plate tectonics and an atmosphere that slowly erases the evidence of ancient impacts, the moon has none of these things. Every crater is a record. Every raised ridge was thrown up by a collision billions of years ago and has stayed exactly where it landed ever since. The youngest craters on the moon are still considered ancient by any earthly measure.
The moon also has no light of its own. Everything you see when you look up at it is borrowed sunlight, reflected back across nearly a quarter million miles of space. The full moon is the moon with its whole face turned toward the sun, completely illuminated, nothing hidden. It has been doing this in a steady reliable cycle for longer than life has existed on Earth, and every culture that has ever looked up at it has found something meaningful in that faithfulness.
The Piece
A full moon in sterling silver, approximately one inch across, its surface deeply oxidized to that rich dark tone and textured with the craters, divots and raised terrain of the real lunar surface. Every mark was placed by hand, which means every moon is its own slightly unique world, the lunar terrain as individual as the person who wears it. The raised craters catch the light differently depending on the angle, bright points against the dark surface, exactly like the real moon on a clear night.
It hangs on an 18 inch sterling silver rope chain, dainty enough to wear every single day and substantial enough to layer with other pieces. It is the kind of necklace that goes with everything because the moon goes with everything.
Each moon is made to order just for you from recycled sterling silver.

A Note from Tamara
I made this necklace because I wanted something small enough to wear every day that still felt like it meant something. The moon felt right for that. Something ancient and universal and quietly beautiful that layers just as well with a flannel shirt on a Tuesday as it does with anything else. Every moon I make is its own slightly different world because every one is made by hand and the terrain lands a little differently each time. I like that. The real moon is not perfectly smooth either. Neither are we.
