Daffodil Flower Stud Earrings
You do not need to check the calendar. The daffodils will tell you. One morning you look out the window and there they are, those trumpet faces turned toward whatever light there is, cheerful and completely unbothered by the fact that it is still technically winter. They have been doing this for thousands of years. They are very good at knowing when it is time.
The Daffodil
The old English name for the daffodil was affodyle, meaning that which comes early, which is perhaps the most accurate name any flower has ever been given. Daffodils are among the very first flowers to bloom after winter, pushing up through cold soil while most of the garden is still dormant, announcing spring with a confidence that the weather has not yet earned. They have been doing this for so long that their decorative use has been found in ancient Egyptian tombs and in the frescoes at Pompeii. Wordsworth wrote about them. So did Shakespeare. The American Cancer Society uses the daffodil to represent hope. The Welsh made it their national flower. There are over thirteen thousand registered cultivars and they are still, unmistakably, always just a daffodil.
Their botanical name is Narcissus, after the young man in Greek mythology who fell so completely in love with his own reflection in a pool of water that he could not look away, and when he leaned too close he drowned, and where he fell a flower bloomed. It is a darker origin story than the flower deserves, but then the Greeks always did enjoy a cautionary tale. The daffodil itself seems entirely unbothered by its mythological backstory. It keeps coming back every March, faithful and bright, completely unconcerned with what anyone thinks.
Daffodil is the birth flower of March. If you know a March baby you know someone who has been told their whole life that spring begins with them. This is correct.
The Piece
Two daffodil faces look out from your ears, each one built up in multiple layers of sterling silver so the trumpet center rises from the flat petals the way a real daffodil does, that distinctive cup shape that makes daffodils unlike any other spring flower. Every petal is etched with fine lines that catch the oxidation and give them depth and texture, the center cup slightly ruffled at its edge the way a daffodil crown always is. They are small enough to wear every single day and detailed enough to be worth a closer look.
Each pair is made to order just for you from sterling silver with sterling silver posts and backs.

A Note from Tamara
I made these because daffodils are one of those flowers that make people genuinely happy and I wanted to be able to wear that feeling every day. There is something about the combination of that bright trumpet face and the fact that it shows up before winter is even properly finished that feels like a very specific kind of courage. Put a little of that courage on your ears and go about your day. Spring knows what it is doing.
