The White Mountains
The White Mountains of New Hampshire are one of those places that people do not just visit. They return to. Year after year, season after season, the same trails and the same peaks and the same quality of light on the same granite faces, and every time it feels like the first time and the hundredth time simultaneously. There are people who have been hiking the White Mountains their entire lives who will tell you that the range still surprises them. That the view from the summit still stops them completely. That there is no substitute for standing above the treeline with the wind and the sky and the whole world laid out below.
You do not have to love the White Mountains specifically to understand this feeling. Any mountain range that has ever made you catch your breath will do. The specific peaks are different. The feeling is the same.
The Piece
The White Mountains skyline wraps all the way around these rings, the full silhouette of the range rendered in layered recycled sterling silver that builds from the ground up. At the base level tiny evergreens stand with their characteristic pointed tops, fluffy maples spread their rounded crowns, bushes and grasses fill the spaces between. Above them the mountain range rises in jagged relief, the peaks and ridgelines cut by hand, animal paths worn into the slopes, small caves tucked into the rock faces, the very tops of the summits softened where the clouds sit. The whole scene is oxidized so every layer reads in depth and shadow, the foreground trees dark and detailed, the peaks catching light above them.
One ring is a size 6 and one is a size 7.5. You may choose one or both.

A Note from Tamara
I made these because I live in the woods of New Hampshire and the White Mountains are part of my landscape and my heart and I wanted to wear them. I also made them because I think the places that restore us deserve to be carried with us when we cannot be in them, close enough to touch on the days when the mountains feel very far away. I hope whoever wears these feels that same deep breath every time they look down at their hands and find the peaks there waiting for them.
