It is a myth that peony flowers need ants to bloom, but it is a pretty unique type of mutualistic relationship. The ants will feed on the nectar that the peony flower produces, and in turn, will help protect the plant from other insects that want to eat the plant. The ants will move along some place else when the flower is in bloom so there is no need to harm them.
These peony stem earrings are entirely handmade from scratch using recycled sterling silver. They each are about 1.5 inches long. The open flower bloom can be worn alone as a stud earring, or you can slide the leaf stem onto the earring post and wear that behind your earlobe for a fun dangle earring. They are lightweight and beautiful. Even without any ants on them.
