You have been finding mushrooms your whole life. In the moss after rain, at the base of old trees, pushing up through leaf litter in places you walk past every day and then one morning there they are. You always stop. You always will. Now you can bring two of them with you.
The Mushroom
Mushrooms are not plants. They are the fruiting bodies of fungi, the visible tip of an underground network that can extend for acres in every direction, threading through the soil and connecting trees in a system of exchange so ancient and so complex that scientists are still mapping its full dimensions. Fungi have been doing this work for roughly 900 million years. The small speckled mushroom that appears overnight in the moss is doing some of the most essential work in the entire forest. It has simply always been too small and too quiet for most people to notice.
Those people are missing out.
The Piece
Two mushrooms, each one carved from scratch in solid sterling silver, each one its own slightly different version of the same essential shape. Speckled caps, textured stalks, bases still rough with the suggestion of soil and roots just below the surface. Tiny gills visible under the cap edge. About three quarters of an inch tall and detailed enough to make someone lean in for a closer look. They sit at your ears like two mushrooms that grew there overnight, which is honestly the best possible outcome.
Every pair is made to order just for you, which means each mushroom will be its own slightly unique specimen. No two ever come out exactly the same, because that is how mushrooms work and it seemed right to honor that.
The earrings have sterling silver posts and backs throughout.
The Craftsmanship
- Earrings: approximately 0.75 inches tall
- Material: sterling silver throughout, oxidized
- Style: post studs with sterling silver backs
- Edition: made to order, each pair unique
A Note from Tamara
I made these because I wanted a mushroom earring that looked like it actually came from the forest floor and not from a cartoon. Every spot and every gill placed by hand, every base left rough the way a real mushroom base looks when you pull it from the soil. I hope whoever wears them feels that little bit of forest with them wherever they go.
