Many years ago I came across an old, grainy photograph taken of a red fox that had climbed a crab apple tree in the winter and had stolen one of the apples to eat. I was amazed! Fox can climb trees? Wait. They will eat apples?? She must have been so, so hungry, I assumed. Originally, I carved a tiny mouse to be what the pouncing fox was going to hop upon. My husband, Josh, came to visit me in my studio after he finished his work day like he does every day. When he came over to see the progress on these earrings he instantly asked what the mouse was for. He knew deep down but I explained it to him. He was bothered because of all the things I could depict in these earrings, I almost chose to have the mouse become a possible snack for the fox forever. He reminded me of the photograph I saved all these years. After that conversation with him I promised that the mouse would be safe and that I would give the playful fox something else to be playing with. Nature isn't as kind as the story within these earrings but sometimes it is nice to only smile about the sweetness.
Can you see the tiniest mouse hiding up in the tree leaves? She is the smallest mouse I have ever carved by hand and she was made especially for these earrings. These mismatched earrings were made entirely by hand from scratch so there will be no other pair like them in the world. Each earring is about 3 inches in total length from the top of the moss agate stones to the bottom of the tree roots. The hoops themselves are about 2 inches tall and 1.75 inches wide. Even though they are very intricate and look large they aren't that heavy. They are only about 1/2 ounce each. Made entirely of recycled sterling silver with bits of copper for the foxes and brass apples, the earrings are made with sterling silver ear posts and earring backs. Hand chosen moss agate stones were added to these forest earrings because of their feel of belonging to the theme. Each tiny apple carved by hand, mushrooms made from molten silver and shaped while still melted, and the fluffiest two foxes that you are sure to fall in love with. These earrings tell a story of your favorite animal.
Already completed one of a kind designs such as these mismatched fox earrings will be packaged up sweetly and mailed off to you within 3-5 business days.
