The moon has been pulling tides and lighting dark fields and making people stop and look up for four and a half billion years. You can wear a little of that on your ears for considerably less time and effort.
The Moon
The crescent moon is the moon in the process of becoming, that sliver of light that appears after the new moon and grows night by night toward fullness. Every culture that has ever looked up at the sky has understood the crescent as a symbol of change and possibility and the quiet reassurance that what has diminished will return. It is the moon at its most dynamic, caught mid-transformation, always on its way somewhere.
The real lunar surface is covered in craters, each one a record of an impact from billions of years ago, the moon's long history of collisions written permanently into its face. It has no atmosphere to weather them away. Every mark it has ever received, it keeps.
The Piece
Two crescent moons, each one hand formed from recycled sterling silver with tiny craters and divots pressed into the surface the way the real lunar surface is marked, then given a hand hammered texture, then darkened with patina, then hand polished so the high points of the silver catch the light while the valleys stay dark and shadowed. The result is a surface that shifts as you move, bright and dark at the same time, exactly like moonlight.
They hug the earlobe with a gentle curve, about 1.25 inches tall, light enough to wear every single day and interesting enough to make someone ask where you got them. The posts, butterfly push backs, and the hoops themselves are all sterling silver throughout.
Each pair is made to order just for you, which means each pair will be its own slightly unique moon, because no two hand formed things ever come out exactly alike and that feels exactly right.

A Note from Tamara
I made these because I wanted a pair of earrings that could go with absolutely everything and still feel like they meant something. The crescent moon felt right for that. Something ancient and universal and quietly beautiful that looks just as good with a flannel shirt on a Tuesday as it does dressed up for something special. I hope whoever wears these feels that same pull to stop and look up every time the crescent appears in the evening sky.
