Monarch and Peridot Drop Earrings

Monarch butterflies are some of the most recognized, and studied, of the butterflies. They often remind us of our childhood, a lost loved one that enjoyed them, or a place in the world that is special to us. During their fall migration, these butterflies can fly up to 3,000 miles to get to Mexico to overwinter. There are 3 to 6 generations of monarch born every year but there is only ONE that makes the flight to Mexico. The longest flight of any other butterfly. Monarch butterflies are not endangered but their numbers do tend to fluctuate wildly from year to year. Having a chemical free yard with lots of native plants is important to helping them to continue to thrive.

The shade of green that the gemstone peridot is usually found in always reminds me of the monarch chrysalis. There really aren't that many shades of green in nature, are there? It is mesmerizing! These sweet copper and silver monarchs matched the peridot perfectly. Both butterflies are entirely handmade so they are as unique as their real wild cousins.

These drop earrings are about 1.25 inches long. A sterling silver earring post is behind the peridot settings so that the flower vine and monarchs drop below the stones. The flower vine has a slight curve so you can choose to wear them in a couple of different directions.
