I think bats are pretty misunderstood. For some reason they have been brought about to make people scared, are depicted as evil little beings, and that is all wrong. Have you ever seen a baby bat? They are the cutest! They liked to be wrapped up tightly like human babies, nuzzle their mommas, and hold onto her for dear life because there is nothing on earth they love more. Bats are very important for pollinating flowers and foods. Did you know this? Bats are pollinators! They also help us with mosquito control and have the cutest ears.
I created this piece entirely from recycled sterling silver sheet. So everything within this piece was one time a flat piece of silver I put through my rolling mill. I crafted the tiny casket for the bat to live in by sawing, filing, and then soldering it into shape. On the edges of each corner of the coffin I added tiny ball detail that is darkened and polished. The little bat I created by melting and manipulating the metal until his basic form showed, and then carving and etching him until he was perfect! He has eyes and a mouth, two big fluffy ears, as well as two tiny feet clinging to the top of his coffin home. Both wings are wrapped around him tightly. He is adorable!
His coffin is hanging from a solid silver tree branch that I made to look a little spooky :) It is not a cast branch but one that I also made with my hands. Above the branch is the full moon. Craters, dips, high points, and texture just like our moon. This piece is heavy with silver and because of the way I create it, one of a kind.
Each of my pieces comes to you in a sweetly decorated gift box making them ready to be given as a gift, or as a nice gift for yourself! This pendant will also come to you on a sterling silver 18 inch long necklace. One of a kind finished pieces will be mailed to you within 3-5 business days.
