Have you ever heard of the tradition "telling the bees"? The telling of the bees is a traditional European custom in which bees would be told of important events in their keeper's lives, such as births, marriages, or departures and returns in the household. If the custom was omitted or forgotten and the bees were not "put into mourning" then it was believed a penalty would be paid, such as the bees leaving their hive, stopping the production of honey, or dying. The custom is widely known in England, but has also been recorded in Ireland, Wales, Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Bohemia, and the United States.
Little is known about the origins of this practice, although there is some unfounded speculation that it is loosely derived from or perhaps inspired by ancient Aegean notions about bees' ability to bridge the natural world with the afterlife.
I love this tradition and plan to tell my bee of all my feelings from here on out <3 This ring was entirely hand carved from my scrap pieces of sterling silver. There is no waste of anything in my studio. All of those tiny pieces of fuzz I cut and added to her body piece by piece. The way that I carved the twig she is perched on is an open design so the ring will be adjustable and I can size if for you before it flutters off home to you. Please be sure to let me know what size you would like your ring during check out. If you forget, I will find you :)
She will be a limited edition design, though, and for a short time. There will only be 10 of her to exist! If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to contact me! She will come to you in a sweetly decorated gift box and ready to flutter home in about 1 week.
